About the wine
A gorgeous 100% Grillo wine from high altitude vineyards in Western Sicily, which have been reclaimed from the Italian mafia as part of the Libera Terra project. Typical Grillo in character, citrus and stone fruits, bright and vibrant with nice minerality. Great structure and balance.
Centopassi work with land taken from the mafia which is repurposed to offer legal work to locals, including health care and welfare benefits. Not only a virtuous cause but they are producing what we believe to be some of the finest Sicilian wines on the market, particularly in their single vineyard offerings such as this. The Grillo grapes are hand-picked from their organic certified vineyard called Pietralunga, which sits at around 600 meters above sea level. After a soft pressing the must is transported to stainless steel where it ferments and matures on the lees for nine months. This lees ageing gives added texture and depth of flavour to the wine and the fact that it only sees time in stainless steel really allows for the integrity of the grape to show.
About the wine
Centopassi Grillo Rocce di Pietra Longa is simply delicious. Really concise, with great concentration and vibrant acidity. Combining fresh fruit, a honeyed note and salty minerality. This organic Italian Grillo wine works excellently with shellfish, salads, spring vegetables, light pasta or risotto dishes.
