Located in the Sicilian channel, the island of Pantelleria is responsible for one of Italy’s greatest wine styles and most delicious dessert wines, Passito di Pantelleria. The climate here is arid, with hot and dry weather conditions and sandy/volcanic soils, making for these complex and intense wines. Solidea is a family-owned, artisan winery who work with 4 hectares of vines, planted with Zibibbo (aka Moscato di Alessandria) on Pantelleria. According to the traditional process, which winemakers here have been implementing for decades, the grapes for this wine are hand-harvested and laid out in the sun to dry for around 30 days, which concentrates the sugars and flavour components. Once the grapes have dried, they are macerated, fermented and aged in stainless steel for 2-3 years before bottling.
Dust off the cheese board and put together a selection of your favourites to enjoy with this delightful dessert wine. Or match sweet with sweet and pair with pastries, biscuits or fruit cakes for an equally delicious combination. Solidea Passito di Pantelleria is smooth and harmonious, with dried fruit flavours, marmalade and sweet acacia honey which develop in the glass to build upon a persistent and luscious finish, and great acidity. A classic Italian Passito wine of typicity and a real sense of place.
