True ambassadors of the Albariño grape variety and Galicia's stunning viticultural backdrop, Sonia Costa and her family winery takes this humble wine to new heights in this Albariño Tradicion. Bursting with dried apricot, peach flesh, and white blossom notes, flanked by dried sage and oregano hints and enveloped by a golden salty edge, and beautifully rich body. One of our favourite whites at the moment, it's a real pleasure to taste Albariño in such an accomplished form.

Albariño is known around the world for being crisp, fresh, saline and the perfect partner to seafood. In Galicia, as Sonia Costa explains, Albariño is produced and enjoyed in many more styles than just this young-drinking version we see in the UK. The Galicians prefer slightly more flavour extraction from the grape, prolonged lees contact, and an extra year of bottle age to soften the acidity, brighten the fruit character, and help the honeyed notes develop. In this Lagar de Costa Albariño Tradicion, they do just this and showcase the Albariño that the Galicians want to drink, it is the style steeped in their traditions. After fermentation, Sonia ages this wine in a large, old French oak barrel which does wonders for the texture of the wine. Another 12 months in bottle before release and we are gifted with this magical white that is as complex as it is charming. If you have the patience, a couple more years in bottle would only add to its character.

Lagar de Costa is a small, family-run winery in Salnes, Galicia. Home to one of the world's iconic wine styles, few do Albariño more justice than Lagar de Costa. Producing with minimal intervention and in several different styles, we love sharing and drinking the wines of Lagar de Costa and we're pretty confident you will too!
