About this wine case

From some of the world’s cooler wine regions, in this case you’ll find six bottles of the zingiest, zippiest, most refreshing whites around. Typically enjoyed on their own, with vegetable based starters or lighter fish dishes, for this mixed case, we have collated crisp classics like Albariño and Vermentino, as well as some more unusual candidates like Malvasia and Soave. Be sure that every wine is light-bodied, full of bright citrus and green fruit character with a mouth-watering character; just what you need on a warm summer's evening. Experiment with some new wines from small producers across Europe, knowing that we’ve done the work for you.

The Ortonese Malvasia-Chardonnay from Abruzzo in eastern Italy offers us white peach and crunchy pear notes with a fleck of dried oregano, framed by wonderful acidity. In the Lagar de Costa Albariño, Sonia Costa produces an exquisite, salty, lemony white from the Galician coast that is calling for some grilled prawns! The Monte Tondo Soave Mito is a bright and fresh example of one of Italy’s most historic whites, from volcanic soils expect a steely like minerality accompanying the orchard fruit.

The Slovenian Verus Sauvignon Blanc, produced by three friends in the country’s viticultural home, offers juicy red apple flavours and pink grapefruit, all with lip-smacking freshness. The Giato Bianco from pioneering producers Centopassi showcases why Sicilian whites are not all about ripeness and roundness – there are refined notes of white blossom and lemon zest with a light and lifted body. And the Vermentino di Sardegna, from expert winemaker Giuseppe Gabbas based at altitude in the middle of Sardinia is blessed with sea breezes and cold nights which result in a saline, zesty and citrussy Vermentino that is one of the best around.
