About the wine

The Verus Sauvignon Blanc has vibrant aromas of lemon zest, guava and apple that jump out of the glass. The palate bursts with pink-grapefruit, juicy apple flesh, lime juice and nettles. Unlike its cousins in New Zealand, this Slovenian Sauvignon Blanc never tips into overripe. There is a perfect balance of citrus and riper fruit flavours and a natural acidity that allows the flavours to sing loud and clear. There is surprising body here too which gives this cool climate Sauvignon unusual harmony from the very first sip. Moreish and refreshing, this is a wine you’ll be calling your friends about to tell them how good it is.

Fermented at cool temperatures, slowly and only in stainless steel tanks means that the team at Verus have done all they can to preserve the varietal purity of this 100% Sauvignon Blanc wine. It’s a variety that, if grown well, needs little winemaker massaging to make expressive and inviting wines. The wine spends a few weeks on the lees to gain texture before it is bottled without fining and only a light filtration.

About the wine

Verus winery is a team of four friends who, in 2007, set up to follow their passion. Styria, in Slovenia’s bucolic north east, is a historic wine region that is home to many small producers and is still one of Europe’s best kept wine secrets. Although you might think that Sauvigon Blanc is an international import to Slovenia, Slovenians have a wine-making history that predates that of France and they have been making wines from Sauvignon Blanc for hundreds of years.

The Sauvignon Blanc from Verus is one of those bottles that makes you think to yourself, “why have I been buying wine from a supermarket all my life?!”. A wine made with passion and care by a small producer, respecting the land they work on and offering truly great value.
