The Monte Tondo Soave Mito is a wine of true value. Attract fruit and floral aromas with a slight nutty taste make this a super wine for light pasta dishes and grilled fish. On the nose there are soft notes of pear, red apple, peach and jasmine with a slight savoury undertone that adds a little complexity. The palate is super fresh and surprisingly round with a nice bit of body coming from a period of lees ageing. Stone fruits persist in the mouth with an orangey freshness and an almond note on the finish. There’s a real juiciness to this wine that lends it to being enjoyed on its own or with lighter foods.
This Italian Soave wine is made from grapes grown by the Magnabosco family in the heart of Soave. Here, there work completely sustainably and farm their grapes according to organic practices. In the winery, the grapes are pressed very lightly at cold temperatures, which are sustained for a slow fermentation. All of these processes help preserve the fresh character of the wine and ensure the fruit profile shines through.
Monte Tondo is a small, family run winery based in the heart of the beautiful Soave region in Veneto. They specialise in the noble white wine that is Soave which, thanks to a series of quality focussed producers in the region, is experiencing somewhat of a resurgence in the UK. Volcanic soils and excellent sun exposure mean that the whites are mineral, concentrated and knockout value for money. The 2020 Soave Mito from Monte Tondo is a must try for white wine fans.
The area around Verona is home to one of, if not the best place in Italy for undervalued white wines. It is here that we find the Monte Tondo winery, in the heart of the Soave wine region. Soave is a historic white wine, made entirely from the noble Garganega grape variety but Soave has garnered a bad reputation in the UK, mostly down to the diluted liquid that filled Italian restaurants during their proliferation in the '90s.
