Few family estates in Tuscany are as steeped in history as the Principe Corsini, Le Corti winery. Since the 14th Century, the Corsini family has been harvesting grapes on their extraordinary 600 acre estate to produce wine. Today they boast one of the most beautiful, quintessentially Tuscan properties, surrounded by which are their Sangiovese vines for the production of their exquisite range of Chianti Classico wines. Historic Chianti winery might turn you off, you might be thinking old and stuffy with a rustic wine style, but the Le Corti winery is different. Thanks to this hands-off approach in the vineyard and the winery, we have seen Le Corti’s improve hugely over the past decade. They are embracing the cooler climates that they experience towards the north of the Chianti Classico area, and the high prevalence of river stone and sand also lends itself to lighter and fresher style of Chianti. This lifted character transcends their range, in particular the Chianti Classico, drinkers of which will note the crunchy red berry character, fresh, silky mouthfeel and elegant, lingering finish. A pristine Sangivoese expression which oozes cherry fruit charm and is a cracking example of a sometimes-overworked wine style. The Chianti Classico Riserva Cortevecchia is a special, and critically acclaimed wine which shows all of Sangiovese’s intriguing complexities in a wonderfully elegant wine. And the Chianti Gran Selezione Don Tomasso is a broad-shouldered Chianti that should be enjoyed slowly allowing the herbal, leathery characteristics to exude from the glass alongside the most scrumptious red fruit flavours.
