Somm Picks is a new feature that draws on our hospitality connections to showcase our wines through a professional lens. We invite some of the UK’s leading sommeliers—people we work with and who pour our bottles day in, day out—to share their genuine, personal, professional insight into the wines they truly rate, and why.
Not what’s trending. Not what looks impressive on paper. But the bottles they love pouring, drinking, and coming back to. They’ll tell us: why the wines matter to them, what makes them special, and when and how they like to drink them. Each edition will feature three wines, chosen by one sommelier, with their own words — unfiltered and experience‑led. We're starting with our good freind Ladislav Edr from Murano Restaurant by Angela Hartnett.
As Head Sommelier at Murano Restaurant, Ladislav oversees the cellar with a simple, grounded philosophy: wine is for everyone. Raised in a small village in the south of Bohemia, far from the usual wine capitals, his approach is shaped by accessibility rather than status. He believes wine should be democratic and unpretentious. For Ladislav, the role of a sommelier is to create joy—choosing bottles that enhance the experience at the table and help guests feel relaxed, welcome and confident in their choices. A great bottle, in his view, isn’t about prestige, but about the pleasure of the glass and the happiness it brings.

Sauvignon 'Quarz', Cantina Terlano - Trentino-Alto Adige
Ladi: "Most Sauvignon Blancs have a best before date shorter than a celebrity marriage, but Quarz from Cantina Terlano clearly didn't get the memo. While other whites are heading for retirement, Quarz is just finishing its morning espresso and getting ready for the next decade. Thanks to Terlano’s volcanic porphyry soils and their "patience is a virtue" winemaking, this bottle ages more gracefully than a silver-screen icon. One of the best Sauvignon Blancs in the world."
Valpolicella Ripasso Arcum, L'Arco - Veneto, Italy
Ladi: "If some Ripassos are like a heavy wool coat, L’Arco’s ‘Arcum’ is more like your favourite cashmere sweater—impossibly soft, perfectly weighted, and you never want to take it off. Luca Fedrigo is making a version so dangerously drinkable it should probably come with a GPS tracker. It’s got that rich Valpolicella soul, but with a "quaffability" factor that’s frankly a little disrespectful to the concept of moderation."
Fiano Il Cupo, Pietracupa - Campania, Italy
Ladi: "Vintage after vintage this Fiano is so consistently precise, it makes a Swiss watch look like it’s just winging it. While the rest of us are out here having "good hair days" and "days we don’t want to talk about," Il Cupo shows up every single vintage with the same laser-focused acidity and mineral backbone. It hits the palate with the accuracy of a heat-seeking missile."
