Made from a blend of Tempranillo, Garnacha and Graciano, which are carefully selected and picked by hand. The three varieties are vinified separately. The Tempranillo goes through a cold maceration for two days in stainless steel vats where it stays through to fermentation, then the wine is transferred to 2 year old French oak barrels to go through malolactic and age for about 8 months. For the Graciano and Garnacha, fermentation and aging occurs in concrete vats.
Rioja is Spain’s leading wine region, world famous for their bold wines, rich in flavour, smooth oak and undisputable age worthiness. Tempranillo is the dominant grape here, with Garnacha (otherwise known as Grenache) typically used in the blends, in addition to other sub varieties such as Graciano. There are three growing zones in which it is split into: Rioja Alta, Rioja Alavesa and Rioja Oriental. Along with Priorat it is the only region to have gained DOCa status, in recognition of thier distinctive terroir and the quality wines they produce.
