Rioja is Spain’s leading wine region, world famous for their bold wines, rich in flavour, smooth oak and undisputable age worthiness. Tempranillo is the dominant grape here, with Garnacha (otherwise known as Grenache) typically used in the blends, in addition to other sub varieties such as Graciano. There are three growing zones in which it is split into: Rioja Alta, Rioja Alavesa and Rioja Oriental. Along with Priorat it is the only region to have gained DOCa status, in recognition of thier distinctive terroir and the quality wines they produce.

Creaciones Exeo winery is passion project set up by critically acclaimed winemaker Carlos Fernandez in 2010. The estate is located in Labastida, Rioja Alavesa. Stepping away from the norm, Carlos is a new wave Riojan producer, championing fresher styles with less dependency on oak usage. He farms 6 hectares of vineyards, some of the highest altitude in the area, on chalk and limestone soils, benefiting from Atlantic and Mediterranean influences. Carlos takes the upmost care in every process of the production, from viticulture to vinification, this project is personal for him. The resulting wines are stunning, they show purity of fruit, maturity, elegance, freshness and refreshingly subtle oak usage. Creaciones Exeo Letras Minuscúlas is a must try for those who enjoy powerful wines and bold flavours.
