About the wine

This 100% Riesling wine has a wonderfully intriguing nose of pressed basil leaf, lime zest and peach skin with a hint of that steely character for which Riesling is famous. On the palate, the white fruits persist along with the fresh basil note and they are allied with a warming, round body and touch of sweetness which softens the brilliant acidity. This is a wine-drinker’s wine, to be enjoyed on its own or with delicate white fish or shellfish.

This Slovenian Riesling is fermented slowly at cool temperatures, followed by a few weeks in stainless steel on the fine lees to add body and texture. Bottling occurs shortly after with a delicate fining and filtration. A wine of potential this certainly is, the development of the mineral backbone along with the concentrated white fruits and herbal edge will be fascinating.

About the wine

The Verus winery, set up in 2007 by four friends, has gained international recognition for their single varietal white wines made in Slovenia’s north east corner that is steeped in viticultural history. You’ll be forgiven for not knowing about Jeruzalem and the surrounding hills, but you’ll thank us once you’ve tasted their wines as they offer some of the best value in Europe. Winemaking has been part of the culture here since before the Romans and there are dozens of small wineries that dedicate their lives to the production of quality wines.

There are some wines that you can smell, and smell, and smell and every time you put your nose to the glass you notice a different aroma. However, there aren’t tons of these wines for below £20, it’s one of those sought-after characteristics we tend to associate with wines at a higher price point. Well, the Riesling from Verus is a notable exception.
