From the right bank of Bordeaux, the wines of Pomerol are held in high esteem as some of the regions finest, most age worthy. The Silvestrini family own a small 1.2 hectare plot here, which is planted with Merlot and Cabernet Franc vines on clay-based soils. Vignobles Silvestrini Pomérol Domaine de la Pointe 2012 is made from 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc grapes. The grapes are carefully selected and harvested manually in order to protect the quality of the fruit. Fermentation occurs over a 10 to 15 day period in temperature controlled, stainless steel tanks, using selected yeasts. After which malolactic fermentation happens naturally in tank. The wine is pressed in a Pneumatic press and transferred to new French oak barrels to age for 12 months. They use new oak rather than used oak in order to benefit from maximum oak extraction for this wine. Just 7000 bottles were produced in 2012.
A French Merlot wine of superb charm and drinkability, yet definite ability to age. Generous and elegant, with berry fruits, vanilla and spice, very harmonious. From a sublime year, 2012 Bordeaux has been celebrated by critics as a stand out vintage. Vignobles Silvestrini, Domaine de la Pointe is wine made for braised or roasted game and red meats, or rich mushroom based dishes.
Needing little introduction, France’s leading region for premium quality wines, Bordeaux is home to some of the world's most sought-after wineries and has long structured roots in the fine wine market. The region has 57 appellations which are sculptured around its rivers (Garonne and Dordogne) into three main areas; left bank, right bank and Entre Deux Mers. The key varieties here are Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.
