Under-the-radar this might be, but boy does it over delivery on quality. There is a sweetness to the core fruit in this wine that makes it so moreish and food-friendly. Slovenia is steeped in winemaking history, so much of which was lost to the Communist regime, and today there is a band of young, independent winemakers who fly the flag for the quality of years gone by. Verus are one of these said winemakers, a team of three lifelong friends who are crafting varietal whites that stand up to the best in Europe. This Pinot Gris nods towards its cousins further West but the texture, combined with powerful mineral-tinged fruit character make this a unique drop. A great pair to grilled white fish but also standing up to white meats, get this chilled down and wow your pals with the best of Slovenia's wine scene.
