From the commune of Castiglione Falletto, right in the centre of the Barolo appellation, comes the stunning Barolo Villero from Oddero. Alluring dark floral notes greet you on the nose, joined by sweet black and red berry notes and a flash of balsamic tinged liquorice. The palate, true to Villero’s reputation for sitting in the perfect middle of La Morra’s perfume and Serralunga’s power, is juicy, warming, round yet elegant, fresh and already approachable. The Villero vineyard is in Castiglione Falletto, the Barolo commune in the heart of the appellation. It sits in the middle both geographically and stylistically, showcasing elegance, perfume and structure at the same time. It has many fans among wine drinkers for its approachability and for the way it captures all of Barolo’s many guises. Villero is a southeast facing vineyard and the soil is compact, with a high clay and limestone content, all of this lends itself to perfectly ripened Nebbiolo with expressive character. Oddero ferment this 100% Nebbiolo wine with the skins for 25 days, after which the wine spends 30 months in large oak barrels for refinement and development. A further year in bottle ensues before release.
