Lagar da Costa is located on the Galician coast, their vineyards just meters from the sea in Viña Becerreira. This small production winery is run and managed by brother and sister team Manuel and Sonia Costa. Winemaker Sonia loves to experiment and is always trialling new ideas within the winery. Her latest release Lagar de Costa Albariño Natural is a product of just that, their first ever natural wine. Made from 100% Albariño, the juice spends 30 days in contact the skins, in order to extract maximum flavour and give texture to the wine. During this time it spontaneously ferments using wild yeasts. When fermentation is over the wine is aged for 6 months in 500L barrels, before bottling for 3 months and then released. The wine is left unfiltered, unfined and sulphite free.
An absolute pleasure to drink, this is a wine that keeps on giving, developing with time as it opens in the glass. Super food friendly, it's particularly great with tapas as its versatility lends itself to multiple flavour combinations. In particular, though, seafood works beautifully, in compliment to it’s saline, maritime characteristics. If you have not tried natural wine before then I suggest you start here, this natural Albariño has all the complexity of character but remains very clean, fresh and approachable.
