The Scali winery based in Northern Paarl is run by husband-and-wife team Willie and Tania de Waal. Scali produces wines of fruit purity, freshness and unusual finesse for this part of the world. Scali are as passionate about making quality wines as they are about giving back to the land that they work on, putting organic and sustainable practices at the heart of everything they do.

Willie’s great-great-grandfather bought their plot of land in the late 19th Century with a diamond he found in the Northern Cape. Fast-forward 140 years and the Scali winery produce bottles with grapes that they grow organically on the very same, 200-hectare plot. Scali works with some of the varieties that have had the most success in South Africa in recent years: Chenin Blanc, Viognier, Shiraz and Pinotage.

The Scali Chenin Blanc ‘Sirkel’ is a beautiful, ripe and fruit-driven expression of this unique terroir. Juicy melon, red apple and flecks of pineapple are a testament to this warm growing region to the north of Stellenbosch. The real attraction of this wine though is its balance between freshness, body, and fruit concentration. A reflection of the care that Willie and Tania give to the vines and their skill in the winery.

The Scali Shiraz Viognier Sirkel is a superb expression of a concentrated red wine from Paarl. Dark berry fruit character is partnered with a subtle, sweet spice and the finish is lifted by aromatic freshness brought to the wine by the Viognier.

Sirkel is Scali’s range of wines that gives back to the community. Light-weight glass bottles, natural wax and hand stamped labels are put together by members of the community that would otherwise be out of work. “These wines complete the full seasonal circle by giving back to the land and the people committed to its creation”
