The Gabbas family have been producing wine in Sardinia for many generations. Giuseppe Gabbas, the most recent to take charge of the family estate, has become recognized as one of the islands finest winemakers, producing exemplary expressions of native Sardinian grape varieties.

Gabbas winery is located in the Locoe valley, at the foot of the Supramonte mountains, the family own 20 hectares of vines, planted with Cannonau (the local name for Grenache), Vermentino and Muristellu. Dry and hot temperatures, moisture retaining soils, cooling sea breezes and protection from the mountains, provides for a fantastic micro-climate for these indigenous grapes to thrive. Gabbas Cannonau is elegant, earthy and fragrant with concentrated berry fruit and spice. Gabbas Vermentino is dry, citrus and floral, with underlying notes of almond and has this lovely saline minerality from the coastal influences.

Giuseppe makes what we consider to be some of truest expressions of this rugged, yet fertile land. Through minimal intervention techniques, he makes expressive and complex wines, which really reflect their sense of place. If you are looking to discover true traditional style Sardinian wine then Gabbas Cannonau and Gabbas Lillove must not go a miss.
