Born in September 2015, By The Dutch Distillery is young in its years but old in its philosophy. It was established with the goal of broadening international awareness of traditional handcrafted and premium spirits of the Dutch heritage, a tradition of distillation passed from generation to generation, since the Dutch mastered the art of creating beautiful spirits from agricultural produce. Shaped by the first liqueur producers in the world, luxury Dutch spirits possess a quality and richness underpinned by a love for their product, impeccable timing and unparalleled respect for ingredients and flavour. By The Dutch captures this quality alongside a sense of nostalgia that adds beautiful depth to their products – both in the glass and on the bottle. They are the perfect addition to our range of quirky, artisanal and outstanding spirits.

Distilled and handcrafted in the ‘Genever Town’ of Schiedam in Holland, By The Dutch spirits have been contributing to the recent blossoming of the region’s reputation, with the quality of its products gaining recognition across the globe. Old Genever, the spirit that gave its town to this particular centre of production, provides the root of the By The Dutch Distillery and, in particular, its gin. Genever has often been considered the ‘love child of gin and whiskey’, one of the world’s oldest distilled spirits, starting the with distillation of genever – a triple distillate of rye, wheat and corn – and subsequently blending this with a botanical and juniper berry distillate. Genever’s popularity has been somewhat overshadowed by the more recent boom in popularity of more recognisable dry gins but, lest we forget, by 1875 imports of genever into the US were six times larger than those of gin.

By The Dutch gin pays homage to its more malty ancestor in its dry gin, utilising traditional Dutch spices and botanicals, distilled separately in a pot still. The distillates are blended and brought to 42.5% alcohol to ensure the perfect balance of aroma and mouthfeel. It marries the tradition of Schiedam genever with the very best botanicals and spices, retaining the smooth notes and malty touch of its ancestor. It’s a beautiful example of an authentic gin that cross-pollinates modern taste and tradition.
