The coast of Abruzzo has become home to some of Italy's iconic wines and there are a couple of grape varieties that thrive there. One of these such grapes is the humble Trebbiano, which, across Italy, is often a bit of an afterthought. That is, except in Abruzzo. Here, on this sunny part of Italy's Adriatic coastline, Trebbiano ripens to produce wines with mature green fruit characteristics, dried herbal undertones, a silky, round mouthfeel and a bit of salty seawater on the finish. We searched high and low for what we considered to be a well-priced and truly typical example of this white that pairs so well with white fish. Thankfully we found Amoterra. A project founded by three long-standing Italian wine industry friends, Amoterra produces an organic Trebbiano Abruzzo that is as ripe as it is fresh. Golden hues of apple, pear, and ripe lemon play with dried basil and a mineral finish.
Loosely translating as 'love of the land' Amoterra is a project set up by four Italian wine professionals with a combined experience of over 100 years of tasting and selling wines. With Amoterra, they have set out to find the best value organic wines being produced in Central Italy and showcasing them to the world.
