The grapes for this Rosato are harvested mid September. The must is left to macerate on the skins for about 12 hours at a controlled temperature to extract colour. After a soft pressing the must is fermented in stainless steel vats and the wine is ready to be bottle shortly after.
Formed in 2011, Mezzogiorno is an exciting venture, whose aim is to source high-quality fruit for the creation of wines which each embody the typical flavors and characteristics of the most common grapes native to Southern Italy. 'Mezzogiorno' translates as 'Midday' in Italian, but is also the word commonly used by Italians to refer to the southernmost regions of the peninsula and Sicily.
There’s a bit of a divide in Italy between the North and the South. The North is proud of its proximity to continental Europe, to its industrial developments and to its art, fashion, and music. The South is proud too, of its agriculture, its natural beauty, and its rejection of the North! We see vastly different wine styles being produced between the two, with varying climates, soil types and grape varieties at play. The word Mezzogiorno, translating literally as midday, is a colloquial Italian term, used to refer to the south of Italy and this winemaker of the same name has been set up to produce affordable wines that are the best reflections of some of southern Italy’s most popular wines.
