In the Roman era, the wine of celebration was a sweet wine known as Vinum Raeticum, essentially the ancestor of Recioto. Think of it as the sweet counterpart to Amarone. The Romans pioneered the drying process that they still employ today to concentrate grapes, encouraging the loss of water and reaching the necessary sugar levels for producing sweet wines.
Speri is situated in the heart of the Valpolicella Classica area in Verona, North-East Italy. Since its establishment in 1874, the estate has been managed by successive generations of the Speri family, who combine centuries-old expertise with cutting-edge technology, shaping it into the esteemed winery it is today. The estate has a long history as a pioneering producer in the Valpolicella area, notably being among the first to produce the iconic wine, Amarone della Valpolicella, in 1958.
