Ripe lemon and peach notes jump out the glass of this Langhe Riesling from Ettore Germano. A note of something riper still, maybe a flash of mango but always fresh and accompanied by a steely, iron-like character that makes this so intriguing on the nose. True to Riesling, the palate is mineral and focussed. Tight at first taste but packing so much fruit flavour that really fills the mouth after a couple of seconds. Developing moment by moment on the palate, by the finish we can taste dried herbs, peach flesh, candied lemon, steel and blossom. The acidity is soaring which is brought into balance by the touch of residual sugar, rounding the mouth-feel. A linear finish ensues and, like all of Ettore Germano’s wines, the wine really apexes on the finish with beautiful purity and freshness. A serious and powerful Riesling that’s backed by elegant fruit and, for that, we recommend pairing with grilled octopus or meaty white fish such as hake or monkfish. Read More

The Langhe Riesling Herzu from Ettore Germano is a passion project of winemaker and estate owner Ettore Germano. A huge fan of white wines and in particular the austere, mineral and age-worth Riesling, Ettore Germano grows Riesling grapes on a plot of land about 50km southwest of their Barolo vineyards in Alba. Here, the stony Langhe soils are perfect for the ripe development of fruit and addition of the mineral flavours. The Langhe Riesling from Ettore Germano is off-dry with great acidity, thanks to the long, slow fermentation that the grapes undergo. Ettore Germano is a proud producer of white and sparkling wines, alongside their famed Barolo production. Not one of the world’s most famous Riesling growing areas but capable of producing some exquisite examples, the Langhe area is a great place for under-the-radar Rieslings at great prices.
