The Besas Grüner Veltliner is a racy, spicy and perfumed example of Austria’s best-loved viticultural child. The Grüner grapes spend up to 6 hours on the skins before fermentation which transmits some of the fleshy, pithy character to the wine, as well as body and a welcomed touch of bitterness. Cold fermentation in stainless steel ensues, to preserve the aromatic purity of the grape. A food wine this most certainly is. 100% Grüner Veltliner wine has a medium body, zingy acidity, and spicy fruit profile which lends it perfectly to east Asian foods – try Thai spiced prawns or soy-glazed salmon.
Along the banks of the Danube River, Austria, lies the region of Niederösterreich, an area perfectly suited to producing Grüner Veltliner wines of the highest quality. Besas is a new project, formed in 2022, committed to producing wines of typicity, by way of precise and quality-focused winemaking, from sustainably farmed vineyards.
