The Rhône Valley is turned to the world over for great value red blends, but from our experience, not all of them are as good as they should be and they ride the wave of being from a revered region. Thankfully, what Olivier and Lafont are doing down here is something worth shouting about and they're putting their 20+ years as winemaking consultants to excellent use under their own project. This CDR Rouge is a classic blend of Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvedre which have proven themselves to be excellent bedfellowes. Notes of raspberry liqueur, blackcurrant, fresh herbs, and cracked black pepper jump out of the glass calling you in. Super smooth on the palate, the medium to full body is balanced beautifully by ripe blackberry fruit and a green herbal undertone, the tannins are perfectly soft and there is a bright, zippy finish. Before Olivier et Lafont were putting their own stamp on wines, they were consulting for some of the best wineries in the Rhône Valley. Not only does this mean they half know what they're doing, it also gives them access to some of the best grapes in the region, which they occassionally buy in to flesh out the perfect wine.
