Few places in the world are as suited for grapes destined for sweet wines as the area surrounding Lake Neusidl in eastern Austria. Neusidlersee, the name of the wine region, is where we find Weingut Tschida Angerhof or just Tschida for short. Here, interspersed with ankle-deep ponds on the shores of the lake, Tschida make almost all sweet wines thanks to the unique growing conditions that favour the onset of Botrytis Cinerea or Noble Rot.

Almost every year, during ripening season, the vines are covered in foggy, damp conditions which are incredibly hard to work in. Thanks to Tschida’s dedication and over 30 years' experience, Tschida makes some of the most sought after dessert wines in Europe in a range of styles including Beerenauslese, Trockenbeerenauslese and Icewine. Tschida believes that every grape variety should speak of itself and not of its winemaker, so every plot and every grape is given different attention to allow it to sing in the glass.

Such is the consistent quality of Tschida’s sweet wines, the winery has won sweet winemaker of the year for six consecutive years and the wines continue to be featured on restaurant wine lists across the world. Fans of sweet wines will be familiar with the magical, marmalade, mushroom, rose-like qualities that botrytised grapes can give to a wine and few come as pure as Tschida’s.

At the start of his range, the Cuvée Auslese is a brilliant introduction to Tschida’s wines at a cracking price point. A blend of four grapes, this has a sticky, cooking berry fruit character with honeycomb and peach syrup notes. The Sauvignon Blanc Beerenauslese is Sauvignon as you’ve never tasted before, like elderflower nectar with flecks of honey and jasmine, this is an amazing drop. So deliciously sweet but always fresh and mouthwatering with an aromatic floral power that is truly unique. And, at the top of the range, the Sämling Trockenbeerenauslese is a bottle to open and wonder. The most complex and intriguing notes of dazzling orange peel, mushrooms, wild strawberry marmalade and tangy, stewing peaches. All of Tschida’s wines dovetail into a pure, fresh finish that makes them seriously world-class, and wines to enjoy with good friends after a delicious meal.
