Priorat is without a doubt one of Spains most important wine regions. Located in the province of Tarragona, just south of Barcelona, these bold, rich, mountainous reds have become are celebrated across the globe. The beautiful but challenging landscape is what makes these wines so special, the vines grow deep on steep, rocky terraces and face high temperatures and dry conditions.

Trossos del Priorat is a small production, family run winery in the village of Gratallops. They farm their 22 hectares of vineyard land according to organic practices. They are not certified organic because they also work with fruit from local farmers who do not have the means to vinify their own. Garnacha (otherwise known as Grenache) and Cariñena (otherwise known as Carignan) are the key varieties in Priorat, though some international varieties are permitted. Trossos winery are focused on Garnacha and utilise small parcels of Cariñena, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah to balance in blends. In keeping with their environmentally friendly ethos, the wines are bottled in lightweight recycled glass, which helps reduce their carbon footprint.
