Christmas day deserves a reach to the top shelf, delicious bottles to accompany special moments shared with friends and family. Wines full of personality, wines full of flavour, yet wines so perfectly balanced that they might just disappear too quickly. As you know, we champion bottles from small producers and for your Christmas Day wines, we have chosen some of our very favourite bottles, bottles that will bring nothing but joy to your festive proceedings. One Champagne, two whites, two reds, and a dessert wine to match all of Christmas Day's magical courses, and to have you sipping merrily well into the evening. Big moments deserve small producers, and these are some of the very best. Buon Natale and alla vostra salute!

To begin, a grower Champagne from the expert families Legras + Haas who have crafted a bottle of true beauty. Soft dough notes play with apple skin and lemon zest, all lifted by a bright freshness and chalky mineral finish, there's no better partner for your smoked salmon breakfast... Onto the whites, whether you have these with starters or they accompany you for your meal, we've picked two crackers. Some of our favourite Italian whites come from the Dolomites in northern Italy, and the Terlaner Cuvée from Cantina Terlano is a magical blend of Pinot Blanc, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc. 100+ years of wine-making expertise go into this bottle that is packed with ripe peach, golden delicious, and honeycomb notes that dance with a sparkling minerality, medium body and seamless, silky texture. Chablis certainly sits at the apex of the world's great white wines, fitting for a day of celebration. La Chablisienne produces this Chablis from some of their best vineyards in the mystical region in Northern France. Lemon zest, green apple, and that iconic, steely minerality are on full-show here and they're weaved together by some delicate savoury notes and incredible freshness. Class in a glass.

Onto the reds and we've picked two Italian icons. First, to Montalcino, where the Sangiovese grape reigns strong. Castello Romitorio winery is run by the Chia family who are artists-cum-winemakers. Their taming of the Sangiovese grape is one to behold as they craft wines of real magic. Their Rosso di Montalcino offers ripe cherry, silky red berries and some warming, sweet spices, a medium to full body and incredible, seamless drinkability. Heading north to arguably the King of Italian reds, we've picked a Barolo from Ettore Germano, where Sergio Germano has spent the last 20 years perfecting this iconic red wine. Powerful yet oh-so-elegant, there are notes of wild strawberries, rose petals, truffles and hot slate, all brought together by an amazing acidity, firm tannins and balanced, velvety finish. Sergio has won awards lately for his exquisite Barolos so it only seemed right to suggest one for Christmas. And finally, for dessert, a sweet wine from the world's best sweet winemaker Angerhof Tschida. In vineyards around a lake in eastern Austria, the perfect conditions for growing sweet wine grapes and in this white blend, there is a delectable combination of fresh and stewing fruits, marmalade, rose petals, lychees and elderflower. Sweet but not sickly, balanced by just the right amount of acidity, this will slip down just perfectly alongside Christmas Cake, Trifle, Yule Log, Cheese - you name it!
