Tenuta di Tavignano is a family run winery located in the heart of the Marche region, on the Eastern coast of Italy. Today the estate is managed by Ondine de la Feld, who since taking over from her uncle in 2014, has made huge progress in establishing this estate as a top Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi producer. Verdicchio is without doubt one of Italy’s most important native grape varieties and nowhere is it more prevalent than in the Marche. A vigorous grape, that thrives in these hilly vineyards of clay and limestone soils, and coastal influences from the proximity to sea. From light and easy drinking dry whites to more complex examples which transform phenomenally with age, this versatile variety has become an iconic Italian style.

Verdicchio is Tenuta di Tavignano’s focus and what they have built a reputation for, receiving accolades such as winning Gambero Rosso’s “White Wine of the Year”. But they also have small parcels of Sangiovese and Montepulciano which go into their fabulous Rosso Piceno blend. And more recently they have released a line of natural, minimal intervention wines which are made without clarification or filtration, they call this their “I Love Monsters” range, referring to the wild and rugged nature of these wines.

Sustainability has always been a hugely important part of Tenuta di Tavignano’s ethos, having used environmentally friendly techniques for many years, but it wasn’t until 2014, when Ondine took over, that one her first moves in management was to start the conversion process to organic agriculture, for which they are now certified as of 2018.
