Alluring notes of gooseberry, marmalade, rose petals, elderflower and honeycomb draw you in to this Sauvignon Blanc Beerenauslese from Tschida. In the mouth this is like sipping the golden nectar you might find at the bottom of a rainbow, there is so much to talk about. Sauvignon Blanc isn’t often found in sweet wines on its own but this is very special. The aromatic character we are so fond of - limes, elderflowers, roses, pineapples, passion fruits – are all here but concentrated and joined by some fungal earthiness, a marmalade note that sparkles, and the most amazing acidity on the finish. This is a showstopping sweet wine that will get your guests talking and will pair well with a whole host of desserts. Something nutty would be good, as would something fruity with pastry. And cheese, well, strong cheeses will find their match here – we can’t think of much better. Read More

Beerenauslese is a classification of sweet wines used in Austria and Germany, it means ‘selected berry harvest’ and refers to the fact that the grapes must have been dried by noble rot to a certain sugar concentration level. In the vineyards around Lake Neusidl on Austria’s border with Hugary, the Tschida winery have been honing their craft in sweet wines for decades. The conditions here are perfect for the development of noble rot and thanks to Angerhof Tschida’s dedication in the vines, they produce some of the finest sweet wines in Europe on these humble shores.
The Tschida winery cultivates approximately 40 hectares of vines and concentrates its efforts on sweet wine production. Such is the quality of their Austrian sweet wines that they have been awarded Sweet Winemaker of the Year for six consecutive years by the International Wine Challenge.
Few places in the world are as suited for grapes destined for sweet wines as the area surrounding Lake Neusidl in eastern Austria. Neusidlersee, the name of the wine region, is where we find Weingut Tschida Angerhof or just Tschida for short. Here, interspersed with ankle-deep ponds on the shores of the lake, Tschida make almost all sweet wines thanks to the unique growing conditions that favour the onset of Botrytis Cinerea or Noble Rot.
