Tying the wines together in this selection is their agricultural philosophy and unwavering dedication to the land on which they cultivate. Organic in the vineyard and in the winery, there is growing argument that the less we do to the grapes, the better they express their true selves, and these six producers would agree. From some of our favourite small producers in Italy and in Austria, treat yourself to this case of Organic Whites. Read More

Verdicchio, with all its coastal, salty charm, is produced with such varietal purity by the family-run Tenute di Tavignano. The Marche region’s most famous export, this crisp, citrussy white pairs perfectly with all shellfish. In Tuscany, Salcheto goes beyond organics with their philosophy of sustainability and this Obvius Bianco is a natural white with loads of character. Hazelnuts, lemon balm, beeswax, and petrol all play with bright acidity and a mineral finish. In Abruzzo, Luigi Cataldi Madonna named his estate Pecorino after his daughter Giulia and the wine, true to its namesake, is charming and elegant. Ripe peach and pear flavours are balanced by a wet stone character and zippy, lemony finish.
In Sicily, we find Centopassi, part of the Libera Terra movement who cultivate grapes on land reclaimed from the Mafia. This Grillo is floral with fleshy apple notes and a dough-like savouriness that makes it super food friendly. Further north in Austria, Markus Huber makes benchmark Grüner Veltliner south of the Danube. It’s tangy, spicy with honeyed peach and wild-flower character. And finally, the Reinisch brothers in Thermenregion just outside of Vienna craft this deliciously warming Rotgipfler, their native white grape. Notes of honeyed lemons, orange peel and melon alongside an undertone of wet rocks and toffee apple.
