About this wine case

Tying the wines together in this selection is their agricultural philosophy and unwavering dedication to the land on which they cultivate. Organic in the vineyard and in the winery, there is growing argument that the less we do to the grapes, the better they express their true selves, and these six producers would agree. From some of our favourite small producers in Italy and in Austria, treat yourself to this case of Organic Reds.

Beginning in Austria’s Thermenregion, the indigenous St Laurent grape produced by the Reinisch brothers, south of Vienna. Bundles of sour cherry and balsamic notes alongside some earthiness and a fresh, moreish finish. Over the border in Italy, the Corsini family, owners of Le Corti winery, go against the grain in Chianti, producing an organic Chianti that sees very little oak allowing their Sangiovese grape to sing with raspberry, cherry, and violet flavours, alongside a silky-smooth body. In Marche, on the east coast, the Tavignano family make delicious bottles from the native grapes. In the Rosso Piceno we get warm, round plummy fruit character with delicate hints of sweet spice.

Moving south into Puglia, we find Marco Caiaffa and his eponymous winery on the cooler norther shores of Italy’s heel. Here he combines synergistic agriculture with beautiful winemaking for a fresh, spicy, and generously fruity Negroamaro. In Basilicata, Elena Fucci runs her tiny yet passionate winery of the same name. Here, she cares for her beloved Aglianico grape variety and produces a wine that is powerful and elegant, with notes of strawberries, violets, and smoked meats. Finally, on Sicily, the Centopassi winery make exquisite wines from native grapes and on land that has been reclaimed from the Mafia. In this red blend, warm dark berry fruit character is accompanied by a mineral undertone and a fresh, floral finish, it’s easy drinking and delicious.
