A case of one sparkling and five white wines.
Any wine drinkers that enjoy opening a bottle and observing the interplay of flavours and aromas in their glass? All of the bottles in this case develop as they open, with savoury, herbal and fruit notes all at play, accompanied by beautiful freshness and great concentration.
NV, Champagne Brut, Granzamy Père et Fils - Champagne, France
Made from 100% red grapes (Blanc de Noirs), this Champagne is elegant, fruity, rich and complex. Crushed red berry character on the nose is followed by nutty, toast and bitter almond notes on the palate. There is great mouthfeel from the 36 months spent on the lees and the fresh acidity carries the flavour into a long finish.
2019 Riesling 'Engelsberg', Huber - Traisental, Austria
Austrian Riesling is often overshadowed by the German counterpart but this Riesling from Markus Huber gives a great reason to be looking further south. This is packed with citrus character, minerality and tight, focussed acidity. The palate is rich and refreshing with a generous finish.
2019 Sylvaner, Cantina Valle Isarco - Alto-Adige, Italy
A stunning white from the height of the Dolomites in Northern Italy. A rich ripe peach and butter nose, with some cinnamon hints, concentrated citrus fruit palate with vibrant acidity, closely knit texture, and a delicious golden apple and citrus peel length.
2019 Gavi del Comune di Gavi Bio, Produttori del Gavi - Piedmont, Italy
This pure and elegant Gavi recalls hints of acacia flowers, broom, pear, passion fruit and pineapple. The mouthfeel is savoury, long, fresh and elegant. Strong with a good acidity. This wine is excellent as aperitif, but goes perfectly with light first courses, white meat, fish dishes and fresh cheeses.
2018 Erbaluce di Caluso 'Cariola', Ferrando - Piedmont, Italy
A somewhat unknown grape variety from northern Piedmont, this white wine is very generous. Freshly cut yellow fruits combine with dried herbs and ripe blossom notes. This is a selection of Ferrando's best Erbaluce grapes so there is great concentration and length here. Perfect with white fish!
2018 Pinot Bianco Tradition, Cantina Terlano - Alto Adige, Italy
A hallmark Pinot Bianco from the expert white wine-making cooperative, Cantina Terlano. This offers so much in the glass, flesh peach and nectarine, firm lemon zest, honeysuckle, bitter almond and a dazzling minerality that they have become so well-known for. This will pair with asparagus, white pasta sauces and creamy fish dishes perfectly.
