2018 Sauvignon Quarz, Cantina Terlano - Alto Adige
Considered one of Italy's very best white wines. This Sauvignon is enticingly exotic in the glass, with multilayered fruit of mango, papaya, lime and red grapefruit, and herbal aromas reminiscent of lemon grass, mint and green tea. It also reveals mineral notes of flint with a hint of elderberry syrup. On the palate, the wine offers a fascinating interplay of juicy fruit and delicate minerality creating a harmonious opulence with a long and impressive finish.
2015 Etna Bianco Superiore 'Pietra Marina', Benanti - Sicily
This 80 year-old Carricante vines that produce this beautiful wine grow on the eastern slope of Etna in the comune of Milo. Only the Etna Bianco produced in this municipality may be given the title of Superiore. Pale yellow in colour, it displays delightful complexity on the nose and palate with aromas of ripe citrus and a touch of tropical fruit but with more intricate hints of lemongrass, orange blossom, and an almond nuttiness with a final twist of star anise. Gorgeous acidity with a lovely, long, moreish finish. Will age for 15+ years if you have the patience!
2018 Chardonnay Sol, Ronco del Gnemiz - Friuli
Possibly the greatest Italian Chardonnay, this gives many of the top white Burgundies a run for its money. Managed by Serena Palazzolo and her sons who take the utmost care for the very highest quality grapes. This is barrique fermented and aged for a complex, textured Chardonnay that is as elegant as it is powerful. Never buttery, this has ripe stone fruit notes, subtle vanilla flecks and a persistent minerality, this will open and develop in the glass and the bottle.
2018 Fiano, Pietracupa - Campania
The talented winemaker Sabino Loffredo has gained a reputation within Italy and abroad, for producing some of the best Greco and Fiano wines in the region. A robust and expansive nose with refined notes of jasmine, golden delicious apples, dried petals and a strong steeliness. In the mouth, a substantial and concentrated palate with marked acidity, this is a fragrant and flavourful white wine, with aromas ranging from citrus to mango through to magical nuances of honey and of citrus that echo throughout the fine, long and slightly almond finish
2018 Timorasso Colli Tortonesi 'Derthona', Borgogno - Piedmont
The Derthona is the result of refining for at least 18 months of the Timorasso: an ancient wine, which has been brought back to life, characterised by power, structure, mineral complexity and other aromatic characteristics. Intense and complex on the nose: in the early years there are fruits reminiscent of pear, peach and orange blossom. On the palate, pure and concentrated of notes of acacia flowers, lemon juice, white peach and lime zest with some well-defined sweet fruit edges, almost honey-like which is typical of this wine. The colour is very clear, intense and consistent and the Derthona reaches its peak age when the green reflection dissolves into the gold.
2018 Pinot Bianco Limes, Ignaz Niedrist - Alto Adige
A tiny producer of the highest order from the heights of the Italian Dolomites. Ignaz Niedrist makes some of the most refined, precise white wines in all of Italy and this Pinot Bianco is no exception. Fermented and aged in barrel, the packed fruit character is well-complemented by a beautiful round texture and dancing minerality given by the limestone soils. This is a serious wine that will do well with all white fish dishes and even better with 5 years of bottle ageing!
